Mountable shaft collars with face holes are designed to mate directly with components such as sprockets, pulleys, and metallic plates. Ruland manufactures them with drilled holes for mounting flexibility or threaded holes for the most secure connection between the collar and mated component. They are offered in steel, aluminum, and 303 stainless steel in bore sizes ranging from 3/8” to 2” and 10mm to 50mm.
Clamp style universal joints improve over set screw style because they do not mar the shaft, offer infinite adjustability, and can be used on all shaft types. Ruland is the only North American supplier of clamp style universal joints and manufactures the clamp feature, bores, and keyways in our advanced manufacturing facility in Marlborough, MA USA. Two-piece shaft collars offer the same benefits as the one-piece style with additional versatility and convenience. The split design is easily installed and disassembled, reducing labor and downtime when adjustment, removal, or replacement is necessary. The two-piece shaft collar uses the full seating torque of its forged screws to apply a uniform distribution of forces around the shaft's circumference. These clamping forces provide the collar with a holding power superior to one-piece and set screw shaft collars. Ruland keeps both halves of the split collar together throughout the manufacturing process to assure a perfect match for proper fit, alignment, and holding power. This process also makes the two-piece collar more adaptable to shafts which vary a small amount from nominal size. Threaded shaft collars share the same performance and benefits of their round bore counterparts, while providing additional features. Threaded collars have higher axial holding power than round bore collars, while offering easier installation and adjustment than solid ring locking devices. Double wide shaft collars are manufactured in one- and two-piece clamp type. They have 25% more holding power than equivalent size and type standard collars. Double wides can be used as a short rigid coupling in space restricted applications that will not fit a standard sized rigid coupling. Ruland manufactures double wide shaft collars in 1215 lead-free steel with a proprietary black oxide finish, 303 stainless steel, and high-strength 2024 aluminum. Bore sizes range from 1/8" to 2" and 6mm to 25mm.
Heavy duty shaft collars have a larger outer diameter, width, and screw for use in applications where the highest holding is required. They are manufactured in one- and two-piece clamp style from 1215 lead-free steel with a proprietary black oxide finish and 303 stainless steel. Bore sizes range from 3" to 6" and 75mm to 150mm.
International series shaft collars are offered in one and two-piece styles and feature inch bores with metric outer diameters, widths and DIN 12.9 socket headed cap screws. The use of metric screws with inch bores is especially useful when either retrofitting or designing equipment with inch shafts for worldwide use. The International series shaft collar is available in bore sizes from ¼” to 3” with outside diameters from 18mm to 108mm.
Keyed shaft collars are commonly used in positive drive applications to prevent slippage on the shaft. In these applications other components can be mounted to the shaft collar to allow for the assembly to rotate with the shaft. Keyed two-piece split collars giving users flexibility to assemble the collar in-place without the need to remove adjacent components. Keyed double wide collars can be used as short rigid couplings in space constrained applications and benefit from increased torque capacity from the keyway. Bore sizes range from 3/8” to 3” and 8mm to 65mm.
Mountable shaft collars are used to mount sensors, fixtures, and other assemblies to shaft collars or each other. They are available in three different styles including: outer diameter holes, outer diameter flats and holes, and quick release. The holes in all styles are tapped and fit standard cap, torx, or set screws for flexibility based on what needs to be mounted. They are available in 1215 lead-free steel with a black oxide finish, high strength 2024 aluminum, and 303 stainless steel in bore sizes ranging from 3/8” to 2” and 10mm to 40mm. This variety of styles and materials allows designers to match shaft collar performance to application requirements.
Ruland offers two types of quick clamping shaft collars that require no tools to be adjusted: the quick clamping shaft collar with a cam lever and the shaft collar with a clamping lever. Both are ideal for applications that require frequent setup changes or adjustments such as those found in packaging and printing.
The quick clamping shaft collar with a cam lever features a cam lever that sits flush with the outside diameter, allowing the shaft collar to be precisely adjusted by hand. It is best suited for light duty or low RPM applications. These collars are made from aluminum with a black anodized finish and have stainless steel hardware. They do not mar the shaft and are indefinitely adjustable. Bore sizes on the quick-clamping shaft collars with a cam lever range from 1/4" to 3" and 6mm to 75mm.
The shaft collar with a clamping lever is a combination of Ruland one-piece shaft collars and flat handle adjustable clamping levers. The stainless steel threaded stud on the adjustable clamping lever is used in place of standard collar hardware. When combined, the two parts create a quick release shaft collar with a ratcheting handle. Once the lever is installed in the shaft collar, users simply turn the lever until they meet their desired torque. Bore sizes range from 3/8” to 1 ½” and 11mm to 40mm.
Set screw shaft collars are the most effective when used on a shaft made of a material which is softer than the set screw. Ruland set collars are furnished exclusively with forged socket set screws for greater torque capacity and improved holding power. Forging of the stainless steel set screws has the additional benefit of work hardening, which results in stainless steel with elevated hardness and performance. Set screw shaft collars are made from 1215 lead free steel with a proprietary black oxide finish, 303 stainless steel, high-strength 2024 aluminum, and engineered plastic. Bore sizes range from 3/16" to 4" and 4mm to 50mm.
Thin line shaft collars are designed for applications with space and weight restrictions in industries such as packaging, printing, medical, and food, and are particularly suitable for split hub componentry such as encoders. They function as clamps, positioners, guides, spacers, and stops in a smaller profile than traditional shaft collars. Two-piece styles have a balanced design for higher RPM applications. Most bore sizes are available with different outer diameter and width dimensions and screw sizes allowing the user to match space limitations and holding power with their application requirements. Ruland manufactures double thin line shaft collars in lightweight 2024 aluminum and 303 stainless steel. Bore sizes range from 3/16" to 1-1/2" and 5mm to 40mm.
Ruland manufactures standard shaft collars with hex and d-bore profiles for proper mating with the appropriate shaft. Hex bore collars allow for added holding power and higher torque capabilities if being used in positive drive applications. D-bore collars are designed for use with d-shafting. They are a better option than set screw shaft collars as they do not mar the shaft, have higher holding power, and are indefinitely adjustable. Ruland manufactures hex and d-bore shaft collars in 1215 lead-free steel with a proprietary black oxide finish and 303 stainless steel. Hex collars are also available in high-strength 2024 aluminum for lightweight applications. D-bore shaft collars available in bore sizes from 1/4" to 1" and hex bore collars from 3/8" to 1/2".
Ruland bearing locknuts are designed to fit AFBMA standard shafting that are commonly found in high precision spindle applications. They have the same performance and benefits of their round bore counterparts, while providing additional features. Ruland bearing locknuts are a one-piece clamp type design allowing for a more secure connection on the shaft. They have higher axial holding power than round bore collars, while offering easier installation and adjustment than solid ring locking devices. Ruland double taps each bearing locknut to ensure precise and burr-free threads to allow for easy installation and removal, proper fit, and extended shaft life. Bearing locknuts are manufactured in 1215 lead-free steel with a black oxide finish. They are available in industry standard locknut sizes from N00-N14.
