Ruland manufactures face mount shaft collars with precise face to bore perpendicularity (TIR ≤ .002" or 0.05mm), which is critical when they are being mounted directly to another component. They are available in bore sizes ranging from 3/8” to 3” (10mm to 80mm).
This Ruland bundle combines a one or two-piece shaft collar with a clamping lever to make a quick release shaft collar. Bore sizes range from 3/8” to 1 ½” and 11mm to 40mm. Collars are available in anodized aluminum, plain aluminum, 303 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel, steel, plastic, and zinc..
Friction bearing type pin-and-block universal joints from Ruland are designed for applications with moderate-to-high-torque requirements in a wide variety of industries. Also called cardan joints or pin-and-block universal joints, they are manufactured from alloy steel for high strength or stainless steel for better corrosion resistance. They are comprised of precision machined, selectively heat-treated and ground components (yokes, pins and blocks) to maximize performance and service life. Single plain bearing universal joints are best suited for space constrained applications and are capable of angular misalignment up to 45°, significantly more than commodity style single u-joints. Double u-joints are better suited for applications with a wide distance between shafts or requiring angular misalignment up to 90°.
Ruland friction universal joints are available in OD sizes ranging from 3/8” to 4” in bore sizes ranging from 3/16” to 2” or 5mm to 35mm. They can have finished bores with or without keyways or machinable bores allowing the user to make custom sizes or geometries. All bore configurations can include a set screw.
Single friction bearing universal joints are best suited for space constrained applications with angular misalignment up to 45°, almost double that of commodity style u-joints. They are comprised of two yokes and one block that are joined by pins which are all precision machined and ground to ensure tight tolerances allowing for consistently smooth operation with minimal backlash. Single universal joints have higher torque capacity than equivalently sized double universal joints. They are available in steel for high torque and stainless steel for increased corrosion resistance. Straight and step bore sizes including inch to metric are available from 3/16” to 1-1/2” and 5mm to 35mm. Single universal joints can be combined with a boot to protect the joint from contaminants in the operating environment. The boot can be packed with grease for infinite life, reducing maintenance on the universal joint leading to more machine uptime.
Double friction bearing universal joints are designed for applications with a wide distance between shafts or applications in need of extreme angular misalignment accommodation up to 90°. They are comprised of two yokes, two blocks, and a center spacer joined by pins. Components are precision machined and ground to maintain tight tolerances, which allows for smooth operation with minimal backlash. Double universal joints are available in steel for high torque and stainless steel for increased corrosion resistance. Straight and step bore sizes including inch to metric are available from 3/16” to 1-1/2” and 5mm to 35mm. Boots can be added to protect the joints from contaminants in the operating environment. Boots can be packed with grease allowing for infinite life helping to reduce machine downtime.
Machinable bore friction universal joints are available in both single and double u-joint styles. They are purchased as a kit of parts or as a preassembled unit. The kit of parts is easier to work with as the yokes can be machined individual of the other components. Assembly once machine work is complete is simple to do with tools that are present in most manufacturing environments. Preassembled units are ideal when the joint will not need significant rework such as if it is welded or mounted to a plate on one side with the other side having a bore. Users can purchase the kit of parts or preassembled units and add the bore size and/or geometry of their choice themselves or through a local machine shop. This is most common when bore geometries such as spline, square, or hex are required. Machinable bore universal joints are available in steel for high torque and stainless steel for corrosion resistance. Outer diameters are available from 3/8” to 3” (9.5mm to 76.2mm).
