Mountable shaft collars with face holes are designed to mate directly with components such as sprockets, pulleys, and metallic plates. Ruland manufactures them with drilled holes for mounting flexibility or threaded holes for the most secure connection between the collar and mated component. They are offered in steel, aluminum, and 303 stainless steel in bore sizes ranging from 3/8” to 2” and 10mm to 50mm.
Clamp style universal joints improve over set screw style because they do not mar the shaft, offer infinite adjustability, and can be used on all shaft types. Ruland is the only North American supplier of clamp style universal joints and manufactures the clamp feature, bores, and keyways in our advanced manufacturing facility in Marlborough, MA USA. They are available in sizes from 1/4" to 1 1/4” in steel for high strength and stainless steel for corrosion resistance.
Ruland slit couplings are a good starting point for designers looking for a high performance coupling with high misalignment accommodation. They are manufactured by Reliance Precision Ltd., in their Cork, Ireland factory from a single piece of 7075 aluminum for low inertia and have a balanced design for reduced vibration at speeds up to 70,000 RPM. The patented slit design has radiused edges that reduce stress on the coupling allowing for high misalignment and torsional stiffness with low bearing loads. Slit couplings have comparable torque to a single disc coupling, torsional stiffness to a stainless steel beam coupling, and misalignment to an aluminum beam coupling. This set of features allows slit couplings to be utilized by designers developing mechanical systems in a variety of industries including solar, semiconductor, medical, and test and measurement. Ruland stocks and bores to size slit couplings in bore sizes ranging from 1.5mm to 12mm or 1/8” to 3/8”. All slit couplings are RoHS3 and REACH compliant.
Long style slit couplings have added torque and misalignment capabilities compared to the short styles. They are an alloy, one-piece configuration designed to provide smooth transmission of motion, high torsional stiffness, low bearing loads, and long life. Bore sizes start at 1.5mm with outer diameters as small as 6mm for use in sensitive precision applications. Ruland slit couplings are RoHS3 and REACH compliant.
Short style slit couplings are ideal for compact installations. They are a one-piece design made from 7075 aluminum for a long, zero-backlash life. The two sets of identical slits provides the best balance between zero backlash, torsional stiffness and low bearing load. Slit couplings can accommodate parallel misalignment, angular misalignment, and axial motion. Ruland slit couplings are RoHS3 and REACH compliant.
Speeds up to 70,000 RPM with reduced vibrations due to a balanced design.
Micro-bore sizes start at 1.5mm for sensitive precision scientific and medical systems.
Reduced bearing loads and enhanced misalignment tolerance. The patented slit design features radiused edges that improve coupling longevity and torsional stiffness.
Eliminates the performance limitations while being a suitable alternative to:
Stainless steel beam couplings which have high inertia.
Aluminum beam couplings which have limited torque and torsional stiffness capabilities.
Single disc couplings which can not accommodate parallel misalignment.
