Zero Backlash Jaw Coupling

Release Date: March 29, 2018

This video will help explain different applications and uses for a Zero Backlash Jaw Coupling.

Transcript

Hi, Bobby Watkins from Ruland Manufacturing. In this segment, we're are going to discuss zero back lash jaw couplings. Zero back lash jaw couplings are a three piece design, two hubs and a spider. Different spider materials are available, different hardness of spider if you will, to give you different dampening characteristics so you can fine tune it to your application. These are ideally suited for applications that require a high level of dampening. High level of dampening are typically required in applications where you have very aggressive move profiles, quick stops, quick starts and that quick stop / quick start can be a shock load to your bearing on your motor and also bearing on your actuator and a curve jaw coupling can help protect those bearings, absorb that shock and extend the life of your system. They do have low misalignment capabilities, not really forgiving. They require precision alignment, typically a dial indicator system or a laser system to meet the catalog specifications for alignment. The spider is a wearing item, over time, the spider does lose it capability to hold zero backlash, so a regular maintenance program to replace the spider is required.
