Hi I’m Mike Langley. Welcome back to Ruland’s technical video series. Today I’m going to show you how to install one of our motion-controlled bellows couplings. For today’s installation, we’ll need our bellows coupling, torque wrench, misalignment measuring tools and your PPE.

We are ready to begin, first make sure the shaft misalignment is within the coupling’s ratings. Complete misalignment information is available on Ruland.com. Please note that exceeding the coupling’s ratings will cause the stainless-steel bellows to deform and ultimately fail. Next, we’ll remove the blows coupling from its packaging and place it on the shafts. The shafts mixed then into the relief portion of the bore as long as it does not exceed the shaft penetration length. This information can be found on the product specification page along with 3D CAD drawings. Fully tighten the screw on one hub to the recommended seating torque using the appropriate torque wrench. Before we tighten the screw on the second hub, we need to rotate the coupling by hand to allow it to reach its free length. Began tightening the hub on the second shaft with the coupling axially relaxed and misalignment angles centered along the length of the coupler. Fully tighten the screw to the recommended seating torque using the appropriate torque wrench. Your coupling assembly is now complete. Thank you for viewing this video. Installation Instructions

  1. Assure that the misalignment between shafts is within the coupling's ratings.
  2. Align both hubs of the coupling on the shafts that are to be joined.
  3. Fully tighten the screw(s) on one hub to their recommended seating torque.
  4. Before tightening the screw(s) on the second hub, rotate the coupling by hand to allow it to reach its free length.
  5. Tighten the hub on the second shaft such that the misalignment angle remains centered along the length of the coupling and the coupling remains axially relaxed.
