Hi this is Bobby Watkins from Ruland Manufacturing and in this segment, we are going to discuss two- piece clamp style shaft collars. Split design allows for “in place” servicing, for example if we wanted to put a collar here on this actuator with the two-piece design we can come around and put that collar in without having to disassemble like you would for a set screw type or a one-piece type, service and remove “in place”. Single point face, the grooved side of the collar is accurate to .002 (0.05mm) TIR, this is your machined referenced face to put up against wherever you’re going to hold the collar to and it will maintain perpendicularity. The split design offers the maximum holding power, this is the strongest design of all the collar types. Much stronger than a set screw type collar, stronger than a one-piece clamp type collar due to the fact that you got two screws, more holding power. The disadvantages of the two-piece design are slightly increase cost, little bit more money than the one-piece clamping type. The assembly time you got two screws to halves to deal with slightly more assembly time to get it installed. Now one thing that Ruland does is on our two-piece design collars, when collar solid ring is split into two we keep these halves together throughout the process, and by keeping the halves mated together it insures that you’re going to get the best possible fit and the highest holding power possible.
