What are Keyed Shaft Collars?

Release Date: January 2, 2019

The two-piece keyed shaft collar uses the full seating torque of its forged screws to apply a uniform distribution of forces around the shaft's circumference. These clamping forces provide the collar with a holding power superior to one-piece and set screw shaft collars.

Transcript

Hi, Bobby Watkins from Ruland Manufacturing and in this segment, we are going to talk about keyed shaft collars. Some applications have a requirement where your collar needs to go over a key and the key will give additional holding power for rotational forces to hold the collar on place, these collars are available in one-piece, two-piece, metric, inches all the standard material can be done with a keyway. The two piece design is the most common version and it allows service in place, plus you have the addition of the extra fastener vs the one-piece type for even additional holding power, so a keyed shaft collar gives you the holding power of a clamp type collar with the addition of a keyway in place to give you a very large amount of rotational holding power.
