What are Double Wide Shaft Collars?

Double wide shaft collars are manufactured in one- and two-piece clamp type. They have 25% more holding power than equivalent size and type standard collars. Double wides can be used as a short rigid coupling in space restricted applications that will not fit a standard sized rigid coupling.

Hi, Bobby Watkins from Ruland Manufacturing and in this segment, we’re going to talk about double wide shaft collars. Double wide shaft collars are a dual-purpose product if you will. They’re great for applications where you need additional holding power versus a single. And again here’s an example of a single collar, here’s a double-wide similar size; two sets of hardware versus one, much longer through the bore. So additional holding power as a collar application versus the single type. Another use for this double wide collar is as a shaft coupling. If you got a confined space where a normal size rigid coupling is just too large or if you don’t need all the holding power that you get from a standard rigid coupling. The double wide can be a good product to look at as a coupling it’s going to have some decreased cost, it’s going to be simpler to assemble, there’s less fasteners and again a common application for double wides is a as a coupling a compact rigid coupling. They're available the double wides one-piece type, two-piece split type in all the standard materials, aluminum, stainless steel, black oxide steel and again as with most ruland products there is a reference space and again this is your precision face this is the face you put up against your bearing or sprocket or gear. So if you'd have the need for additional holding power, more than what a standard single wide collar can give you, take a look at the double wide collar.
