What Shaft Coupling Is Best For A Subsea Application?

Release Date: March 11, 2019

Shaft couplings are used in a wide variety of applications, including in the ocean! In this video we answer a question for a user who wants to know what coupling is best suited for a subsea application.

Transcript

Location: Vancouver, BC
Question: What kind of coupling do you recommend in application where it might be exposed to seawater?
Answer: The best coupling for this type of an application is a stainless steel rigid, assuming there is perfect misalignment in the system. We confirmed with the customer that the 303 body and 18-8 hardware was suitable and the use of a rigid coupling would not be an issue. Where the coupling would not be exposed to the elements it's an easier application. We do have applications with exposure and those generally require a 316 stainless body with the associated hardware.
