Which is better: a one- or two-piece rigid coupling?

Transcript

Location: Paris, France
Answer: This is largely application specific. One-piece rigid couplings are ideal for applications where you plan to install the coupling and never move it again. They’re more common than the two-piece style because they have reduced cost and they’re easier to assemble because they only have four screws as opposed to eight screws. The two-piece types does have a variety of advantages which make them more applicable in a wider range of applications. They include, at Ruland, we oppose the hardware for a balanced design. You can also put two differently sized keyways in a two-piece rigid, which you cannot do with a one-piece rigid coupling. They can be serviced in place so if you ever need to remove the coupling for any reason you don’t need to move your motor or the two shafts that it’s connected to.
