Question: What is the clamping tolerance of a quick clamping shaft collar?
Answer: This is one of the most frequent questions we get with quick clamping shaft collars: can it accommodate wide shaft tolerances? Well, the answer is "more than a standard collar but it is negligible." It is definitely not capable of six tenths of a millimeter as the customer needs. What the customer has done is a frequent misuse of the product in overtorquing the screw. This will cause the handle to tighten, if not become inoperable. It also deforms the collar, causing a loss of surface content and holding power. As an alternative we recommended the customer buy a collar with a smaller inner diameter and bore it up themselves, turn down the end of their shaft to a smaller size, or make a custom bushing to bring the size of their shaft up.
