Disc Couplings for Printing

disc coupling misalignment

Disc couplings have high misalignment capabilities while remaining rigid under torsional loads.

Ruland manufactures disc couplings with high torsional stiffness and speed capabilities, zero-backlash, and a balanced design for use on large format and production printing equipment. Their accuracy and repeatability makes them well suited for the demands of these applications which are often driven by a motor and ball screw.

disc couplings

Disc couplings are manufactured in clamp and set screw style with keyed or keyless bores ranging from 1/8” to 1-1/4” or 3mm to 32mm.
Why Ruland Disc Couplings?

  • Balanced design allows for reduced vibration at high speeds to help prevent banding
  • High torsional stiffness and zero-backlash operation
  • Single disc styles available for compact spaces
  • Double disc styles available for higher misalignment capabilities
  • RoHS2 and REACH compliant
  • Carefully made in our Marlborough, Massachusetts factory and available for immediate delivery

Ruland manufactures disc couplings in single and double disc style, giving designers flexibility to find the right coupling for their design. Single disc couplings are best suited for compact spaces where system alignment can be tightly controlled as they have no accommodation for parallel misalignment. Double disc couplings can accommodate all forms of misalignment and are generally more applicable across a range of applications. Ruland uses a balanced design for reduced vibration at speeds up to 10,000 RPM, which is especially useful in printing applications to prevent banding.

Disc couplings are manufactured from two aluminum hubs, stainless steel disc springs, and double disc styles come standard with an anodized aluminum center spacer. This creates a low inertia coupling with few moving parts ensuring a long maintenance free life. The stainless steel disc springs allow for a substantial amount of shaft misalignment while remaining rigid under torsional loads.

Ruland manufactures disc couplings in clamp and set screw styles. They are available with or without keyways in inch, metric, and inch to metric bore sizes ranging from 1/8” (3mm) to 1-1/4” (32mm). Electrically isolating double disccouplings are available as standard order items with an acetal center spacer as opposed to aluminum. Disc couplings are manufactured from bar stock in our Marlborough, Massachusetts factory under strict controls using proprietary processes. All hardware is metric and performs above industry standards for maximum torque capabilities.

Disc couplings are part of Ruland’s complete motion control coupling product line which includes rigid, beam, bellows, jaw, and oldham types. Full product specifications including dimensional and performance data, 3D and 2D CAD models, and installation videos can be found at www.ruland.com.
