Encoder solutions from Ruland: Four Beam Couplings

asndsa

Ruland four beam couplings are torsionally stiffer than single beam couplings for increased accuracy and repeatability.

Ruland four beam couplings are designed for encoders requiring a coupling with high flexibility and accuracy. They have superior performance to single beam couplings in precision systems due to Ruland's proprietary beam design, providing for increased torsional stiffness with full misalignment accomodation.

P- and MW- series couplings are zero-backlash, have a balanced design, and can accommodate all forms of misalignment.
Why Ruland Four Beam Couplings?

  • Reduced vibration at speeds up to 6,000 RPM due to a balanced design.
  • Greatest accuracy in the industry because of Ruland's proprietary beam design.
  • Both styles accommodate all forms of misalignment.
  • Two styles offered for a wider selection of bore sizes and performance characteristics.
  • RoHS3 and REACH compliant.
  • Carefully made in our Marlborough, Massachusetts factory and available for immediate delivery.

Beam couplings are the most common form of encoder coupling used in industrial, medical, semiconductor, and robotic applications. The two primary styles are single beam and multiple beam. Single beam couplings offer higher amounts of angular misalignment with limited torsional stiffness and parallel misalignment capacity. Ruland manufactures multiple beam couplings for encoders in the four beam P- and MW-series. They are machined from a single piece of aluminum or stainless steel and feature two sets of two spiral cuts, allowing for increased torsional rigidity, zero-backlash, and the accommodation of parallel misalignment. Ruland four beam couplings have reduced vibration at high speeds due to a balanced design.

Encoders have small bearings, making low radial forces necessary for longevity and continued high performance. Ruland four beam encoder couplings provide extra misalignment flexibility to yield reduced bearing loads. Two styles are offered for a wider selection of bore sizes and performance characteristics. MW-series couplings have pure metric outer diameter and length dimensions and fit in a smaller envelope than the P-series allowing for easier interchanges from single beam couplings.

Ruland manufactures four beam couplings from type 7075 aluminum for lightweight and low inertia or 303 stainless steel for increased torque capacity. They are available from stock with inch, metric, and inch-to-metric bore sizes ranging from 3mm to 12mm. Clamping hardware is metric and tests beyond DIN 912 12.9 standards for maximum torquing capabilities. Anodized finish, custom bore dimensions, and inch hardware are available by special request.
