New from Ruland: Expanded Selection of Vibration Isolation Components

Ruland Manufacturing Co., Inc.
October 2020

Rubber Bumper Group

Marlborough, MA – Ruland Manufacturing has expanded its selection of vibration isolation mounts and rubber bumpers to better meet the needs of design engineers. New products include tapered style rubber bumpers, a wider range of shore hardness choices, leveling feet, and silicone and NBR rubber material options. Vibration isolation mounts and rubber bumpers are frequently used in packaging, conveyors, food processing, and other industrial equipment to extend machine life, protect sensitive components, and reduce noise allowing for a safer work environment and reduced machine downtime.

Vibration isolation mounts and rubber bumpers are comprised of metallic cores encased in rubber jackets with male and/or female threaded components. Vibration isolation mounts have threaded studs, tapped holes, or a combination of both on each end to connect two parts of a machine together. Rubber bumpers have a threaded stud or tapped hole on one end to serve as an end stop or mounting foot.

The jackets are available in natural, NBR, and silicone rubber with Shore A hardness of 40, 55, and 70. These material and hardness options allow designers to tailor product performance to system requirements. Metallic cores are made from 304 stainless steel for high corrosion resistance or zinc-plated steel for increased durability and general purpose use.

New tapered style rubber bumpers are designed for progressive resilience which better cushions the impact load while reducing the forces exerted on equipment or components. Ruland has also expanded its selection of cylindrical bumpers to include both new jacket material options and new sizes. Cylindrical bumpers have higher load capacity due to the load being applied evenly on the face of the bumper. They are intended for general purpose use or when a component needs to be placed on a flat surface.

Leveling feet are made from NBR rubber with a 70 shore A hardness and a longer stud for increased service life in demanding applications. The vibrations caused by heavy duty machines like large conveyors can cause damage to floors and quickly wear out other rubber bumper styles. The use of a specialized stiff jacket material and longer stud allows leveling feet to withstand greater operating forces and be used to adjust equipment height if desired.

All configurations are available with imperial threads from #8-32 to 3/8-16 and metric threads from M3 to M16. Bumper and mount outer diameters range from 0.39 to 3.11 inches (8mm to 100m). Size selection is based largely on the demands of the application, particularly the expected loads or severity of vibration. These components are seen across many different industries both on large, complex machinery and in relatively light duty applications such as feet or additional protection for delicate components.

All vibration isolation mounts and rubber bumpers are sourced from J.W. Winco. These additions to the product line give designers even more options in a wide variety of industries and applications and is part of Ruland’s ongoing expansion of its machine component offering, which currently also includes, adjustable handles, star knobs, keystock, CNC tool shelves, and indexing plungers.
