New from Ruland: Expanded Range of Keyed Shaft Collars

Ruland Manufacturing Co., Inc.
March 2020

Oldham Couplings for Actuator Driven Systems

Ruland keyed shaft collars can be used
in positive drive applications to
prevent unintended slippage on the shaft.

Marlborough, MA -Ruland has expanded its offering of keyed shaft collars by adding additional bore sizes to the existing two-piece product line and including keyways on double wide shaft collars. Designers can now choose from keyed two-piece clamping collars with bores from 3/8” to 3” and 8mm to 65mm. Double wide collars are offered with or without keyways from 1/8” to 2” and 6mm to 25mm in one- and two-piece styles.

Keyed shaft collars are commonly used in positive drive applications to prevent slippage on the shaft. In these applications other components can be mounted to the shaft collar to allow for the assembly to rotate with the shaft. Ruland offers a wide variety of inch and metric sizes in standard width two-piece shaft collars giving users flexibility to assemble the collar in-place without the need to remove adjacent components. Double wide shaft collars use an additional screw allowing for a 25% increase in holding power when compared to equivalent standard width collars. Double wide shaft collars can also be used to transmit torque as a short rigid coupling in space constrained applications that cannot fit a standard rigid coupling. The addition of keyways to double wide collars allows for increased torque capacity in power transmission applications.

Oldham Couplings for Actuator Driven Systems

Keyed shaft collars are available
in two-piece and double wide styles
from 1/8” to 3” and 6mm to 65mm.

Ruland clamp style shaft collars do not mar the shaft, are infinitely adjustable, and have higher holding power than set screw type shaft collars for use in a diverse range of applications. Equipment manufacturers benefit from the tightly controlled face to bore perpendicularity of Ruland shaft collars (TIR ≤ 0.002” or 0.05mm) which is critical when they are used as a load bearing face or for aligning components such as bearings or gears. Ruland keeps both halves of two-piece collars throughout the manufacturing process for proper fit, alignment, and holding power. Forged screws exceed industry standards to ensure maximum holding power.

Ruland manufactures keyed shaft collars from 1215 lead-free steel with a proprietary black oxide finish for the highest holding power, 303 stainless steel with hardware of like material for consistent corrosion resistance, and high-strength 2024 aluminum for light weight and low inertia. Ruland shaft collars are machined from bar stock sourced exclusively from North American mills and carefully manufactured in our Marlborough, MA factory to ensure product consistency. All Ruland manufactured products are RoHS3 and REACH compliant.
