New from Ruland: Mountable Shaft Collars

Ruland Manufacturing Co., Inc.
December 21, 2017

Mountable shaft collars are designed to mount
to each other or adjacent components such
as sensors.

Ruland has released a new line of shaft collars with mountable holes in the outer diameter allowing for easy mounting of shaft collars to each other or adjacent assemblies. Clamp style designs are used allowing for benefits such as not marring the shaft, indefinite adjustability, and high holding power.

Ruland mountable shaft collars can be used in a wide variety of applications. In application with perpendicular shafts, designers can mount or stack the shaft collars to each other. Mountable shaft collars are available with holes only in the outside diameter for mounting sensor brackets or similar components.

Mountable shaft collars can be used for guiding, spacing, stopping, mounting, and component alignment. They possess equivalent holding power to standard shaft collars. Designers benefit from the tightly controlled face to bore perpendicularity of Ruland shaft collars (TIR ≤ 0.002” or .05mm) which is critical when they are used as a load bearing face or for component alignment. Ruland identifies this work surface with one or two circular grooves on the face of the shaft collar to assist in installation.

Clamp shaft collars distribute compressive forces evenly around the shaft for a tight fit and significantly increased holding power when compared to set screw collars. This is especially useful for designs with high impact loads or components that are frequently repositioned. Two-piece shaft collars offer increased holding power, in-place servicing, and are mated throughout the manufacturing process for proper fit and alignment. The Ruland name and bore size are stamped on every shaft collar for ease of identification.

Ruland manufactures mountable shaft collars from high-strength 2024 aluminum, 1215 lead-free steel, and 303 stainless steel in bore sizes ranging from 3/8” to 2” and 10mm to 40mm. This diverse range of sizes and materials allows designers to match shaft collars to application needs. Ruland uses fastening hardware that tests beyond industry standards for maximum torque capabilities and holding power. All Ruland shaft collars are made from bar stock sourced from select North American mills and carefully manufactured in our Marlborough, MA factory.

Established in 1937, Ruland focuses on the design and manufacture of high performing shaft collars and couplings. All products are carefully manufactured in Marlborough, Massachusetts under strict controls using proprietary processes. 3D CAD files, full product specifications, and additional technical information, are available at www.ruland.com.
